The Gov's taking 2 days from us. It was leaked in the Sun yesterday and confirmed in the Examiner this morning.
Rumor has it that we will have the day after Christmas off and the day after New Years off without pay. More rumor has it that the 2 days pay will be stretched out over 6 mo so it will only be like losing $1.60/day. We'll see about that.
Anyone else getting fired for a few days?
I mean, "furloughed"?

I'm sorry to hear that the state has been reduced to doing this to you and your coworkers. I wonder how much time/money Marty O will be giving up...?
At least the Baltimore City teachers got to vote on it a couple of years back, since it was a contractual issue. (As I recall, the choice on the ballots was between "No" and "Hell No".)
With any luck they'll break it up for you as you described so it won't be too painful at your end. Good luck.
I'm getting furloughed too. Looks like I'm on the hook for 5 days; the two during the holidays and three more by the end of the fiscal year.
While it sucks, I'm interested to see how the public, which generally views state workers as lazy slobs, reacts to what will probably be real inefficiency because of this. Will they blame us as workers for being useless when they have to wait even longer for whatever or will they understand it's out of our hands and we're "taking a hit" just like they supposedly are in a lousy economy?
Even more, I think it was extremely stupid for MOM to allow the latest land deal he's cooking up that will COST $71M to be announced on the same day (preliminary) details of furloughs for 67,000 workers saving $38M are released. He could have kept it under wraps until the weekend when it'd be less noticable, at least.
